For the sixth time in their careers, Venus and Serena Williams will meet in a Grand Slam final here on Saturday, carrying their nation's flag further at Wimbledon than anyone else from any other family could manage.
They are a truly incredible pair of sisters and their victories here on a rainy day in London have ensured that the name of Williams will appear on the All England Club honors board for the seventh time in the last nine years. Serena won on the last two occasions they played each other here, winning in 2002 and 2003 but it is, of course, Venus who will be defending the title this time following her unexpected triumph twelve months ago.
Venus was the first winner on Centre Court, swamping Elena Dementieva in the first set before being made to chase a few well struck groundies in the second. But it was a match the Russian was never going to win and score of 6-1, 7-6(3) was a fair reflection.

Serena was made to work a lot harder by the little surprise package of these championships, Jie Zheng.
"I was ready to go a third set but I didn’t want to," Serena said afterwards. She didn’t have to because Zheng undid all her good work by double faulting when she served at 5-6 in the tie break. So it was 6-2, 7-6(5) to the younger Williams.

Unhappily, when Dementieva appeared for her press conference, she was asked how she would see an all-Williams final.
"It's really hard," she replied. "For sure, it’s going to be a family decision."

Trying to head off controversy at the pass, the WTA's John Dolan rode into action and quickly tracked down Elena for an explanation. This was what she said: "English is not my first language and I apologize for not speaking it better. I do not think for one second that matches between Serena and Venus are family decisions. What I meant was it is a unique situation for a family to be in to be playing for a Grand Slam title. I cannot imagine what it must be like. I expect a very tough match between two of the biggest fighters in the game."

Per la sesta volta nella loro carriera,Venus e Serena Williams si sfideranno in una finale del Grande Slam qui sabato,portando la bandiera del tennis americano come nessun altra altra famiglia ha saputo fare a Wimbledon. Le loro vittorie qui nella piovosa giornata di giovedì hanno decretato che il cognome Williams comparirà nell'albo d'oro per la settima volta in nove anni.
Serena ha vinto le due volte precedenti qui,nel 2002 e nel 2003,ma Venus è campionessa uscente e cercherà di ripetere il suo inaspettato trionfo qui lo scorso anno.
Venus è stata la prima a vincere sul campo centrale contro Elena Dementieva,aggiudicandosi facilmente il primo set e dovendo lottare di più nel secondo senza dare però mai l'impressione di poterlo perdere. 6/1 7/6 lo score che riflette la prestazione.
Serena ha dovuto lottare un po' di più con la piccola sorpresa di questi Championships, la cinese Zheng . “Ero pronta ad andare al terzo set ma non volevo”,ha dichiarato. Alla fine non ha dovuto perchè la Zheng ha commesso doppio fallo sul match point sul 5-6 al tie-break del secondo set.
Risultato: 6/2 7/6 per la più giovane delle Williams.
Hanno chiesto alla Dementieva cosa ne pensasse di una finale tutta in famiglia.
“E' molto difficile,sarà certamente una decisione di famiglia”.
Provando a mettere fine alla controversia,in seguito a queste parole e alla seccata risposta delle Williams, John Dolan ha preferito far chiarire le proprie parole alla Dementieva,che ha così affermato:” L'inglese non è la mia prima lingua e mi scuso per non parlarlo meglio.Non ho pensato nemmeno per un secondo che il match tra Venus e Serena dipendesse da una decisione familiare,quello che volevo dire è che è una situazione unica in cui una famiglia si trova coinvolta per un titolo del Grande Slam. Mi aspetto una partita dura tra due delle più grandi lottatrici di questo gioco”.
