Ivanovic ready to win the big one? -
Ana Ivanovic pronta a vincere il suo primo grande titolo?

Two years ago, well before she became a Grand Slam threat and the highest-ranked athlete on FHM's 2008 Sexiest Women in the World poll (take that, Maria Sharapova), Ana Ivanovic could afford to dream an unknown 18-year-old's bold dreams and say that some day, she'd love to play mixed doubles with top-ranked Roger Federer.
But now the Serbian can no longer afford to have a silly schoolgirl's thoughts as the world's No. 2-ranked player and with one of her close childhood friends, third-ranked Novak Djokovic, becoming Federer's most in-your-face rival. Playing with Ivanovic is likely unthinkable for Federer, who in Monte Carlo, screamed at Djokovic's parents to be quiet while he was beating down their outspoken son — the same man who toppled him at the Australian Open and whose mother, Dijina, told FOXSports.com shortly afterward that Federer, the king, was dead.
Ivanovic is not the queen of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour yet, so no one has their sights directly set on her throne. But the attractive brunette is a striking princess in waiting and one who doesn't want to wait much longer to reach the top.
This is no longer a breakout period for Ivanovic but a year of confirmation. She's reached two Grand Slam finals in the past year and she's won two other Tier One titles, but those accomplishments will be quickly forgotten if she begins to feel the heat and can't jump over her next career hurdles.
But as sweet and endearing as she is, like Djokovic, she won't back off when stating her ambitions.
"I needed more time to get mature and to realize that potential I have," she said after winning her sixth career title at Indian Wells in March. "My coaches always believed in me, and they always said I had potential to win Grand Slams. As long as I didn't believe it inside, it was impossible for me to do it."
Armed with arguably the most powerful forehand on the tour, a consistent and more varied backhand and a bullet return, Ivanovic has all the look of a No. 1 to be, yet she's been plagued by inconsistency.
And despite being tall and naturally strong, Ivanovic has a sporadic serve that can be torched if she's having an off-day. If she cannot develop a more consistent, powerful and varied serve, her dreams of being a dominant player will be dashed.
But off court, Ivanovic is Big Ms. Sunshine, even when confronted with a negative comment about her game, she'll answer thoughtfully and without spite.
"I'm very different on the court than off," Ivanovic said. "It's hard for me to get mean and upset off the court, but once I'm on the court, I think I can be tough and mean. It's hard sometimes but I realize that I have to be (that way) and that's what keeps me motivated for success."
What two-time Grand Slam champion Tracy Austin likes the most about Ivanovic is that, over the past year, she's taken all the important little steps up the ladder to her current ranking. But what's been missing from Ivanovic's resume is that one major crown that will put her on par with her peers.

Due anni fa, ben prima che diventasse una minaccia per il Grande Slam e l’atleta meglio classificata tra le donne più sexy del 2008 su FHM (prenditi questo, Maria Sharapova!), Ana Ivanovic poteva solo permettersi di sognare, come si conviene a una sconosciuta diciottenne, di poter dire di giocare, un domani molto lontano, il doppio misto con Roger Federer.
Oggi la serba non può più permettersi di avere i pensieri di una sciocca studentessa in quanto è diventata la numero 2 del mondo e, inoltre, uno dei suoi amici più intimi dell’adolescenza, il numero 3 del mondo Novak Djokovic, sta diventando il principale rivale di Roger Federer.
Giocare con la Ivanovic è probabilmente impensabile per Federer, che a Montecarlo ha urlato ai genitori di Djokovic di stare zitti mentre stava prendendo a pallate il loro schietto figliuolo – lo stesso uomo che lo aveva sconfitto agli Australian Open e la cui madre, Dijina, aveva dichiarato a FoxSports.com che, conseguentemente a questa sconfitta, il re Federer era “finito”.
La Ivanovic non è ancora la regina del circuito Wta per cui nessuno ha puntato dritta a sedersi sul “suo” trono. Ma la bella brunetta è una principessa in attesa che non vuole attendere troppo prima di raggiungere la vetta mondiale.
Questo non è più l’anno dell’esplosione per la Ivanovic ma l’anno della conferma. Lo scorso anno ha raggiunto due finali negli Slam e ha vinto due Tier One ma quelle imprese saranno velocemente dimenticate se inizia ad avvertire la pressione e se non riesce a superare i prossimi ostacoli.
Ma, da persona dolce e affettuosa qual è, così come Djokovic, la Ivanovic non “indietreggia” sulle sue ambizioni: “Ho bisogno ancora di tempo per maturare e realizzare a pieno il mio potenziale”, ha dichiarato la Ivanovic subito dopo aver vinto il suo sesto titolo in carriera ad Indian Wells nel mese di marzo. “I miei allenatori hanno sempre creduto in me e i hanno sempre detto che io ho il potenziale per poter vincere i tornei del Grande Slam. Per molto tempo non ho creduto molto nelle mie possibilità”
Dotata del dritto più potente del circuito e di un rovescio vario e consistente oltre che di una risposta al proiettile, la Ivanovic ha tutte le carte in regola per essere una numero uno ma ha pagato la discontinuità. Nonostante sia alta e potente, la Ivanovic ha un servizio poco costante che può tradirla quando non è in giornata. Se non riesce a sviluppare un servizio più vario e pesante, i suoi sogni di diventare una dominatrice del circuito saranno vanificati.
Fuori dal campo, la Ivanovic è per tutti “Mrs Sunshine”, “la luce del sole”, poiché anche di fronte ad un commento negativo lei risponde in modo ragionevole e mai piccato. “Sono molto diversa in campo rispetto a come sono fuori”, ha detto la Ivanovic, “Una volta entrata in campo so essere dura e cattiva ma è una condizione indispensabile se voglio rimanere motivata e stimolata a vincere.”
Tracy Austin, due volte vincitrice del Grande Slam, stima molto la Ivanovic ritenendo che lo scorso anno la serba ha compiuto tanti piccoli passi che le hanno permesso di scalare le classifiche. Ciò che le manca è un titolo dello Slam che la possa definitivamente fare entrare nel club delle migliori.
